Soccer, butterflies and Mother's Day...OH MY!

I can't believe its already May...and that May's almost half over! What an amazing spring this has been for us (albeit very short!) We had several soccer games in May and Austin had quite the cheering section at those games. Aunt Tammy and Uncle Brian came up and went to a game with us (my cousin and her husband) and then Gee (Joe's mom) came for his last game. He has really enjoyed playing soccer...but loves the trophy so much more! What a great time we have had with it all!

I think this is where Austin was telling me he had scored two goals. At least, I hope that's what this was, otherwise...I'm not sure what he's doing!

He just looks so happy and like he's having so much fun out there!

Austin and Coach Dad with Austin's trophy after the last game!

Yet another picture of Kayla cheering on her big brother! Although, she seems to be very deep in thought in this one!

And, the last family soccer pic of the year. Next fall, I'll be trading in the "Soccer Mom" shirt for a "FOOTBALL MOM" SHIRT! That's right, we've signed up to play TACKLE FOOTBALL this year!

In the midst of all of that, OUR BUTTERFLIES EMERGED! My mom gave Austin a butterfly net for his birthday, along with a certificate to order some caterpillars that would, of course, turn into butterflies. Well, we got the little cups of caterpillars and watched them slowly turn into chrysallids and then emerge into beautiful butterflies. The theory, of course, is to watch them for several days and then set them free. However, during that time, you have to feed them. This would normally not be hard, except for the fact that I had to put the butterfly net into a different room because the cats kept knocking it over and rolling it around. I figured that couldn't be good for a butterfly's heart, so I put them away and forgot about them! Luckily, I remembered soon enough and we were able to set them free, although I think the kids would have liked to keep them a little more-I'm just not sure the butterflies would have survived much longer!

This is Austin with his butterflies before we let them go. If you look closely, you can see one of the butterflies on the side of the net.

Joe is trying to open the net slowly so I could try to take some pictures of the butterflies...of course he had no control over that!

This was one of the butterflies that took a little longer to fly away...I think it was just posing so I could get a picture before he left!

We celebrated Mother's Day yesterday by going to Church and then going to lunch! I got some time to myself to relax while Joe took the kids shopping. They came home with two dozen roses (that they carried in themselves) and a lawn chair for me to lounge in the backyard in while the kids were playing. I was pretty impressed that Austin remembered that I wanted one, because he's the one who told Joe what to get me! It was a very nice day around here and I am so blessed to have such wonderful children!

These flowers bloomed for the first time all spring yesterday! That really goes in line with the old saying "April showers bring May flowers"...we have had a TON of rain lately and the flowers are looking so pretty! Of course, my "baby" is getting so big and its SO hard for me to pick him up to take a picture now!

Kayla is truly turning into such a little girl and is not really a baby anymore!

We played outside after we got home from night church. Austin was trying to surf on the swing and Kayla was learning how to blow bubbles! She did such a good job and had so much fun chasing them when Austin was blowing them!

After spilling most of the bubbles on her shirt, we were ready to go in and take a bath!

Happy May to everyone and I hope its not getting too hot for you, wherever you are! Summer is officially here in Texas and we're definitely feeling the heat!
